Assistant Editor
Salary: £25,000-£28,000
Location: Morden, London (Hybrid)
Experience: 1-2 years
Working Pattern: 4 days in-office during 3-month probation | 2 days per week in-office thereafter
A B2B organisation is looking for an Assistant Editor to join its editorial team, working across a portfolio of magazines focused on the processing and energy industries.
This is an opportunity for an editorial assistant or junior writer looking to take the next step in their career within a specialist B2B environment.
The Role
Working closely with the Group Managing Editor, you will support both digital and print publications while developing ownership over titles within the portfolio.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
Write daily online news stories
Produce social media posts aligned to breaking news and key industry events
Monitor industry trends and identify emerging thought leaders
Pitch, source and write features for quarterly and bi-monthly magazines
Sub-edit expert-contributed articles
Support print planning and production (with progression to flatplanning your own titles)
Proofread content for clarity, tone and accuracy
Deputise for the Editor when required
Attend international conferences and trade shows when needed
What We're Looking For
This role would suit:
A graduate with 1-2 years' editorial experience
Someone currently working as an Editorial Assistant or Junior Writer
Candidates with B2B experience (essential)
Individuals with some commercial awareness or exposure
Essential Skills:
Experience working in B2B (B2C backgrounds will not be considered)
Strong ability to meet deadlines, including short turnaround times
Excellent attention to detail
Confident writing and storytelling ability
Strong communication and networking skills
Ability to simplify complex technical concepts
CMS experience (WordPress preferred)
Working Pattern
Hybrid working model:
During probation (first 3 months): 4 days per week in the Morden office
After probation: 2 days per week in the office (Mon-Tues)
Interview Process
Initial call with recruiter
Teams interview with the Group Managing Editor
Short editorial task
Final in-person interview with the Group Managing Editor and Managing Director
This role offers progression into managing publications and owning print titles over time.
