We’re currently seeing a deficit in the rising number of jobs Vs the number of people applying. This creates a problem for employers who are hoping to climb in front of competitors, as it is proving tough to find the perfect talent from a smaller pool of candidates.
In fact, candidates are being approached by hirers or recruiters often. This means, while they have more choice, employers are competing for their attention.
To help ease your business challenges, we’ve listed six things you can do now to attract the best candidates to apply for jobs at your company.
What’s in it for me? If you can answer this question for a candidate then you’re off to a brilliant start. Candidates need a reason to move jobs. So, find out how they’ve progressed, and where they want to go, then let them know how this role complements their future plans.
Communication If you don’t tell them who you are, and that you’re on the lookout for brilliant people like them, they aren’t going to come knocking on your door. Make sure you utilize your marketing channels to showcase your vacancies and what it’s like to work for you.
Flexibility After being asked to work from different locations, or simply at home, plus a global pandemic, there aren’t many who would say no to flexible working. Hear out your existing employees and your new ones because not doing so could mean you lose them.
Resilience Put yourself in their shoes. You would want to know that your next role is with a solid employer. Tell them how you’ve made positive changes to support your staff and revenue since Covid-19. Ultimately, they want to know they’re moving to a stable employer.
Support Whether it’s mental health, disabilities, financial issues, or anxieties, let them know how you go out of your way to ensure your people feel safe, listened to, and most of all valued. It’s a delicate time right now, although people and the job market are showing confidence, it might not be the case for everyone.
Career growth Linking back to the ‘what’s in it for me’ question you answered previously, many candidates would like to know that their job gives them satisfaction and that they’re growing just as much as your business. Map out the career path of your vacancies in advance and be transparent about where you see their role progressing. This will also reinforce that you’re a stable employer.
